Zone Events
Fees are set to ensure maximum participation is possible, please note that there are no discounts for multiple teams. All schools will be sent a tax-invoice reflecting the number of players who attended the event. This will be sent on the Tuesday following the day results are posted online. We reserve the right to invoice schools for places reserved but not used if we are required to turn other teams away. Cash payments are NOT ACCEPTED. If your school cannot receive and pay an invoice, parents may enter individual students online and pay by credit-card. All individual entries must be registered and paid before the event. State Finals The entry fee for a State Finals Event is $150 per team (up to 5 players), plus $30 for each additional player. National Finals The entry fee for the National Finals is $80 per player. Host schools register their first 2 teams (28 players) at normal entry fee. When entries close (5 days prior to an event) the Host School may access any unused venue capacity at a 50% discount. eg. Host School registers 28 players, will be charged $26 per player. The venue holds 150 players and 5 days prior to the event there are still 50 places available. Host School now registers a further 45 players, these players will be charged at $13 per player. Host School will be sent a Tax-invoice as follows: 28 x $26 = $728, plus 45 x $13 = $585 Total Invoice of $1313 (average of just $18 per player) If the event is fully booked then Host School will not be able to bring more players, and no discounts will be provided. |
HOW TO QUALIFY
A school team can take part any number of Zone qualifying competitions.
The more competitions you win, the more students you will have in your State Finals team!
A school winning a Zone Competition qualifies for the State Interschool Finals as follows:
There is always a minimum of 4 players required in a team to participate at State Finals.
The highest placing unqualified school at each zone event also qualifies for the State Finals. ie. If the winning school has already qualified for the State Finals then the next placed school will also qualify for the State Finals. In the case of a tie, all tied schools will qualify for the State Finals.

- 0 zone wins / did not play Zone events - 5 players
- 1 zone win - 10 players
- 2 zone wins - 14 players

- Junior Primary (Prep-Year 3)
- Girls Primary (Years 3 - 6)
- Primary (Years 3 - 6)
- Middle Years (Years 5 - 9)
- Girls Secondary (Years 7 - 12)
- Open Secondary (Years 7 - 12)

HOST A ZONE EVENT
We aim to run at least one Zone Qualifying Event in every Local Government Area in Metro Areas and in every major Regional Centre around Australia.

COACHING
A free Lecture series, presented by International Chess Masters as well as the option for Individual Coaching after every game!
There are lectures provided during the Championships for players of different experience levels. These lectures are given by some of the best players/coaches in Australia.
There are also lectures and workshops available for parents and teachers. These help you facilitate a chess club, teach your students, find free resources online for chess, educational benefits of chess and more. |
Players have the option to receive individual coaching after each of the 7 tournament games they play.
An incredible team of expert coaches will be in the Coaching Lounge, including numerous International Masters and a Women's Grandmaster. |
House Chess
- Kids Unlimited provides all equipment, arbiter, coach and prizes (medals or trophies)
- School to provide a suitable playing hall, chairs and tables
- The event duration will depend on the time allocated for the event. Recommended duration:
- 32 - 64 players: 3 hours duration, 5 rounds of chess (9am - 12:00pm)
- 65 - 99 players: 3.5 hours duration, 5 or 6 rounds of chess (9am - 12:30pm)
- 100 - 128 players: 4 hours, 6 or 7 rounds of chess (9am - 1pm)
- It is possible to have more than one division, e.g. Junior & Senior
- $16 (incl GST) per player
- A minimum entry of 32 players is required
- If fewer than 32 students attend the event, a fixed rate of $512 (incl GST) will apply
- All schools will be sent a tax-invoice reflecting the number of players who attended the event 48 hours after the event
